Oxford AHSN Masters Fellows 2016 Jodie Buckingham and Anna-Marie Madeley
Two more NHS innovators have joined a unique partnership with the University of Oxford to develop clinical leaders.
Jodie Buckingham, a podiatrist, based in Oxford, and Anna-Marie Madeley, a midwife from Milton Keynes, bring the total number of Oxford AHSN Fellows to 15.
They join the seven Fellows who began the three-year Evidence-Based Healthcare Masters programme in 2014 and the six who started in 2015.
Jodie, pictured above left, said: “In my job I am responsible for ensuring the right structures are in place to enable hospital patients to receive care in line with NICE standards for diabetic foot disease. I also develop Trust-wide policies and procedures which need to be based on the best evidence available. The quality of the evidence that shapes the care we provide for people with diabetic foot disease is historically very poor. I want to identify the issues with existing evidence and understand how to develop good quality research to improve the situation. When I looked into this MSc I felt it would help me achieve these aims.”
Anna-Marie, a home birth team leader at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, said: “I am most looking forward to learning new skills in the appraisal and application of evidence in my field and in particular identification of gaps in knowledge to fill as a researcher. Additionally am looking forward to becoming one of a growing number of healthcare practitioners adding to current knowledge base and developing a culture of evidence based healthcare in the NHS.”
Anna-Marie is particularly interested in bridging the gap between the lived experience of women and midwives and the perceived value of this as evidence towards the better provision of quality healthcare.
