Spread and adoption

Health Innovation Oxford and Thames Valley (HIOTV) aims to accelerate the adoption and spread of clinically and cost-effective innovations across our NHS partners. We connect healthcare systems with trusted innovators, ensuring that proven solutions are effectively integrated into healthcare delivery. Our approach has been developed to meet the evolving needs of healthcare providers, driving improvements in both patient care and operational efficiency and productivity.

Matching NHS needs with proven solutions

We collaborate closely with NHS teams to understand their specific challenges and objectives. Leveraging our pipeline of high impact innovations, products and services, we help bridge the gap between innovation and implementation. Our focus is on either finding clinically validated and cost-effective solutions that can integrate well into pathways and healthcare delivery models or, through working with innovators, building evidence to support the case for adoption through real world evaluation.

Supporting sustainable adoption

HIOTV is committed to more than just introducing new innovations – we support the full journey of adoption and spread within the NHS. Through tailored business case support, guidance development, workshops and training we aim to equip NHS staff with the tools and knowledge they need to seamlessly incorporate these innovations into everyday practice, ensuring that they deliver long-term benefits for patients and healthcare systems alike.

Building networks for collaboration and spread

Collaboration is at the core of our work. We facilitate connections between NHS systems and innovators, fostering partnerships that allow proven solutions to be scaled up and spread more effectively. By enabling knowledge exchange and supporting best practices, we help innovations reach more regions and deliver impact across the NHS.

Current adoption and spread programmes

  • CaRi-Heart – CaRi-Heart (Caristo Diagnostics) is an artificial intelligence (AI) solution to quantify coronary inflammation and characterise plaque based on routine Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography (CCTA). CaRi-Heart analysis generates an individualised risk score to aid diagnosis and management of coronary artery disease. HIOTV carried out a feasibility study to evaluate the utility of the technology in the NHS care pathway for chest pain management. As well as now supporting evaluations that are taking place at five different NHS sites, HIOTV is also working with Caristo to develop an NHS-wide adoption strategy for the innovation. • PRO-MAPP The Pre-Assessment Clinic Triage (PACT) is an intelligent process built on the PRO-MAPP platform that identifies medically complex surgical patients and tailors their care pathways. It collects essential patient data, streamlines pre-assessment tests, and integrates with patient record systems for seamless information sharing. PACT also monitors patients on the waiting list to assess their ongoing fitness for surgery. Additionally, it determines whether an appointment before surgery should be conducted in-person or virtually. HIOTV supported a successful service evaluation with health economic analysis in the hip and knee pathway. HIOTV is working with PRO-MAPP to support further adoption and spread of PACT to other specialities and trusts. Read more in our PRO-MAPP case study
  • Concentric Concentric provides digital consent for all treatment scenarios and is used by several NHS trusts. Key benefits include improved shared decision-making, better outcomes, fewer day-of-treatment delays, reduced medicolegal risks and time savings for clinical and administrative staff, as well as lowering the carbon footprint. HIOTV supported the Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West Integrated Care Board (BOB ICB) in selecting technologies for the Health Technology Adoption and Accelerator Fund (HTAAF) funding application. Concentric was one of the innovations to receive support to accelerate its adoption at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust in 2024 and 2025. HIOTV is collaborating with BOB ICB to support HTAAF reporting to the national team and a preliminary impact assessment of Concentric.
